POP Week January 11-15, 2009
January 11-15 is POP (Power Over Prejudice) Week at Webb Bridge.
There will be daily trivia questions and a poster contest with entries due on Thursday, January 14, 2009. POP t-shirts, hats, and bracelets will be on sale throughout POP week. Prices: hats-$5.00, t-shirts-$3.00, necklaces and bracelets-$1.00. Buy all four items for only $8.00! All POP proceeds will be donated to local charities. The students will also be observing the following daily themes:
Monday – “Celebrate a picture perfect world.” Homerooms will create a collage on a miniature cut-out using pictures of every student in their homeroom to express an appreciation for all. The first 3 homerooms with a completed collage will receive an icy treat.
Tuesday – “We are tied together to stop prejudice and discrimination!” Students are invited to wear any tie-dye clothing to show their support. Participants will receive a sweet treat during their lunch.
Wednesday – “Sock out prejudice!” Students are encouraged to wear their wackiest socks. The homeroom with the most participants will receive peace necklaces.
Thursday – “STOP, look, listen, and CHANGE.” Students should wear their Stop Stereotypes t-shirt and bracelets to help support and celebrate POP week. Participants will receive a sweet treat during their lunch.
Friday - “I have a dream.” Let’s celebrate Dr. King’s dream of justice for all. It’s a pajama day! Students may wear flannel pajama bottoms, but no bedroom shoes. Students may wear a hat for $1.00.
Webb Bridge Middle School: A "Lighthouse School to Watch"
In 2009, Webb Bridge was once again awarded the prestigious Georgia "Lighthouse School to Watch" Award, an honor bestowed on middle schools which are conscientiously moving to fully meet nationally endorsed criteria for high-performing middle schools.
Some of these criteria include:
- high academic achievement
- positive school climate
- strong family and community partnerships
We have an enviable parent involvement at Webb Bridge and we hope to build on this strong base of parental support, further improving the school.
The PTA plays a vital role in enhancing the educational environment in three ways:
- Providing financial resources
- Providing volunteer resources
- Fostering relationships between parents, teachers, the administration and the community.
Here's where your family can take an active role in improving the quality of education at Webb Bridge:
- Financial resources: join PTA for as little as $10. Your PTA operates with a "non-fundraising" philosophy. Our annual budget is driven almost exclusively by the PTA membership campaign.
- Volunteer resources: the opportunities for volunteer involvement are too numerous to list here and you don't need to commit to chair a huge project. No matter how much, or how little time you have to volunteer, there is a task for which we can use (and would welcome) your assistance. We encourage you to complete the Volunteer Information Form and challenge every family to check at least one area of involvement.
- Fostering relationships: there are many important issues that are facing our students every day. Your PTA offers a vast array of programs and activities that support the school and its staff to optimize learning conditions and provide resources to parents to effectively prepare their children for high school and beyond. Examples include Lunch-n-Learn, Red Ribbon Week, technology upgrades, Staff and Teacher Appreciation luncheons, campus beautification projects, the Taste of Webb Bridge, Multicultural Night and the Olympics, just to name a few. We encourage you to take advantage of as many of these events and programs as possible to enrich your child's middle school experience.
On behalf of the 2009-2010 PTA Executive Board, we thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you at our information tables in the rotunda at Sneak-A-Peek. You won't regret making this investment in your child's future by becoming involved.
