Webb Bridge Middle School wins National Blue Ribbon Award
Webb Bridge Middle School has earned the National Blue Ribbon Award for 2010, making it the only middle school in Georgia to win the honor this year.
Superintendent Cindy Loe delivered the good news to students and teachers during a special live televised broadcast at the school this morning. School board member, Katie Reeves, Webb Bridge principal, Elizabeth Fogartie, and school PTA co-president, Liz Woodring, were also part of the special announcement.
“We are incredibly proud of Webb Bridge Middle School for earning the National Blue Ribbon Award because it affirms what we have always known about this school. It is a school with outstanding leadership, dedicated teachers, hard working students, and a supportive community,” Dr. Loe said.
To be considered for the Blue Ribbon Award, schools must be nominated by the state, and winners are chosen by the U.S. Department of Education based on two criteria. Schools may win for demonstrating dramatic improvement with significant populations of students from disadvantaged backgrounds or they may win for scoring in the top 10 percent on state assessments. Webb Bridge is recognized for high achievement on assessments.
“The dynamic people of Webb Bridge Middle School are the true reasons we earned this award. Our students are energetic and eager to learn, our teachers and staff members are gifted, enthusiastic, and creative in everything they do, and our parents value education and support us every day,” said Principal Fogartie.
The Blue Ribbon Award comes on the heels of the school recently being honored for having the most master teachers in Georgia in 2010 and Fogartie’s selection as the National Middle School Association’s Distinguished Educator of the Year. “Ms. Fogartie is an amazing principal and we would not be able to thrive if it weren’t for her and the incredible support of our teachers. I am proud to say I go to Webb Bridge Middle School,” proclaimed eighth-grader and Student Ambassador President, Carlee Woodring.
On November 15, Fogartie and a teacher selected by the faculty will travel to Washington D.C. for a special ceremony to accept the award.
